Conamara Duathlon 28/02/2015
The Conamara Duathlon will be held in An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe), Co. Galway on February 28.
The run course is stunningly scenic in places, but with the scenery comes the lung-busting challenge of short, sharp hills. Join us for an adventure in the real Conamara!

Con Doherty, winning the Conamara Duathlon
The course is a 3.5km run, a 21.5km cycle, followed by a 3.5km run. The roads will be open to traffic, but traffic will be managed by Gardaí and marshalls. It is important that competitors adhere to the rules of the road.
The run is a scenic loop around the townland of Cuileán. The run is hilly, but there are descents as well as climbs! The run course is the same for both runs.
The bike route is just over 21.5km in length. The roads will be open, but traffic will be managed. The route is a double loop of the same course. All turns are left turns, and they will be well-marshalled. The first left turn is after 4km, at Casla, turning left at Raidió na Gaeltachta, followed by another left turn 2km later at Doire Fhearta, and returning to the centre of An Cheathrú Rua for another left turn 4.5km later.
Transition will take place in the Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge carpark. There will be a mount/dismount line for cyclists. Participants must adhere to instructions from marshalls. You must put on and close your bike helmet before handling your bike.
An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe) is 42 kilometres (26 miles) west of Galway city, along the R336. Follow the signs for An Spidéal (Spiddal) when leaving Galway. As the area is a Gaeltacht area, look for signs for An Cheathrú Rua as opposed to Carraroe.
Parking is available at the church (on your left when you enter the village), at Halla Éinne (a community hall on your right opposite the Chinese restaurant) and behind the library (on your right, opposite Cogaslann Uí Mhistéal further on through the village). There is also some limited parking at the registration site, behind the An Chistin pub.
An Cheathrú Rua
Registration will open at 1pm, and will close at 2.30pm. Registration will take place at An Chistin pub in the centre of An Cheathrú Rua. An Chistin is located on the left side of road, coming from Galway, and is opposite a T-junction.
If you are a Triathlon Ireland member, it is important that you bring your membership card with you, as you will have to show this at registration for insurance purposes. If you have purchased a one-day license online, your details will be at registration. It is possible to purchase a one-day license on the day for €5.
Timing and Results
After the Race
Water and bananas will be available at the finish line. Sandwiches, scones and cake will be provided free of charge to competitors in the An Chistin pub after the race. Results and prize-giving will be announced as soon as the data is finalised. After that, it could be as good a day as any to sit back and enjoy a well-deserved pint!
Further details are available here.
We look forward to seeing you!
